Bout of Books is next week.
I’m a new mom to a one-month-old.
I’ve been thinking about these two competing facts since the last Bout of Books. I wasn’t sure if I would or should join in for this one, but I figured I’d see how this first month went before making a decision. And now that it’s here… I just can’t not sign up.
Like the last time a Bout of Books coincided with a blog hiatus, I’ll stick to Twitter for any updates. And really, I have no idea how much I’ll be able to participate anyway. But as crazy as adjusting to life with a newborn has been, I do have little bits of downtime here and there. I’ve been filling most of them with Netflix, because re-watching my favorite shows requires a lot less brainpower than picking up a book… and I don’t feel the slightest bit guilty about preferring mindless entertainment right now.
But now that I’m getting a handle on this mom thing, it’s time to start getting back into old habits. Earlier this week, for the first time in a month, I read something that wasn’t online or in a packet from the hospital… and it felt glorious!
I’m really looking forward to Bout of Books, although “books” sounds a bit optimistic right now. (Maybe I should call it Plethora of Pages.) My super-ambitious goal is to read something for myself every day. I know it may not happen. But with some cooperation from the little man – and his dad – I think it’s a real possibility.
