My last child-free Bout of Books was a total success! I’ll probably never read this much in a single week ever again.
I blew my reading goals out of the water, but I didn’t quite meet all the others. “Spend 30 minutes a day reading and commenting on blogs” fell to the wayside about halfway through the week, but I do plan to get back to it tomorrow, catching up on some wrap-up posts. I think it’s hard to know at the beginning of the week just how much socializing I’ll feel like doing, and while it’s nice to have something to aim for, I’d rather fall short of that goal than let it feel like a chore.
One funny thing I realized partway through the event is that – completely unintentionally – the vast majority of authors on my TBR were women… so I sort of unofficially took the couple of male-authored books out of the running. Sorry, boys, I’ll get to you eventually.
As for the books themselves, I had my first three planned out – and they were great, and I’m glad I finally read them – and then after that I was just sort of pulling at random. Some worked out better than others, but there were no real duds in the group, which is always a plus (especially after starting off my year with a rare 1-star book).
Bout of Books 13 starts four months from today. Will I sign up? I don’t know… it would feel so weird not to… but… newborn! I guess I have a month after Snickerdoodle gets here to make that decision.
So, how was everyone’s Bout of Books? First-timers, do you think it’s something you’ll do again? Anyone watching from the sidelines feel like jumping in next time?
