The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 6th and runs through Sunday, January 12th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 9.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I got about 20% into Run to Ground before DNFing it. It’s not terrible, but I just couldn’t get into it. It employs one of my biggest pet peeves – alternating between 1st and 3rd person – and it just felt dry. Chances were slim this one could have won me over. But I’m always happy to get one more book off my TBR, whether I read the whole thing or not.
Create a Story Challenge:
Mandi’s challenge is very similar to Deb’s from yesterday, only we work with more words and can’t insert any of our own. Here’s my response:
I took these words from Run to Ground.
The downtown job. His seat empty again.
A family shot over paper invoices.
Cellophane. Shell casings. Cuffs.
It said leave there.
Dark chest for family news.
Earlier toward compassion.
Book Spine Poetry Challenge:
I’ve not had much luck with book spine poetry in the past, but I simply couldn’t pass this one up while I’m on such a roll. My response:
Two days left! How’s everyone doing?
