The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 19th and runs through Sunday, August 25th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 8.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. –From the Bout of Books team

All of my reading today was done in fits and starts while a million other things were happening. Actual reading time, I got… I don’t know, maybe an hour? …and a half? …ish? Who knows… but I had my book open on and off for most of the afternoon. Some family stuff going on… which is also why I haven’t responded to comments in a couple days. (I’m usually really good about responding to comments, really! Just ask my regular readers, they’ll tell you.)
But, today isn’t a total bust as far as Bout of Books goes, because in between everything else that was going on, I managed to complete today’s Bookish Mad Libs challenge at The Space Between. This is one I’d been pretty excited about, having caught snippets of the idea for it on Twitter, when they were still asking for hosts for the week.
So anyway, here’s the words it asked for, and my answers. (And I swear, I did this the right way and collected my answers before reading ahead to the story part.) Except for the last one, I narrowed myself down by only picking from books on my 5-star shelf on Goodreads.
Place name or type (from a book title):
The Green Mile
Fave Villain (from a book – list title/series):
Diogenes Pendergast from Dance of Death (and others in the Pendergast series)
Adjective (from a book title):
Number (from a book title):
The Thirteenth Tale
Noun (from a book title):
The Eye of God
Fave Hero/Heroine you wouldn’t mind spending a LOT of time with (from a book – list title/series):
Seichan from Bloodline (and others in the Sigma Force series)
This one was tricky, as first of all I don’t know that Seichan is a heroine exactly, but she’s not really a villain, so… I say she counts. Also most other options I entertained, much as I’d like to meet them and even hang out for a while, would probably start driving me crazy if I had to spend a LOT of time with them. I figure Seichan’s a pretty safe bet… as long as she wasn’t planning to kill me.
Dessert (from a book title):
This one was also tricky as even going outside my 5-star books I couldn’t find any that had a dessert in the title… but then I figured, well, this sounds like it could be a dessert. I have no idea what form said dessert would take, other than some kind of small morsels.
And, the story…
Help! I’m being held captive at The Green Mile, by Diogenes Pendergast!
It is very Deep here!
He is demanding Thirteen Eyes to set me free!
I have just discovered that Seichan was captured too!
On second thought, please send Magic Bites, and don’t worry if you don’t hear from us for awhile!

Eh… it could be worse.
