The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 19th and runs through Sunday, August 25th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 8.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. –From the Bout of Books team
Since signing up for Bout of Books, my life has gotten a bit more complicated. Only temporarily, but it’s not going to resolve itself before the read-a-thon. I actually considered stepping back, but… well, I’m still going to be reading next week, so I may as well stick around. How much I’ll be reading, though… that’s anyone’s guess.
The books I currently have to choose from are:
- Eaters of the Dead, by Michael Crichton
- The Eyre Affair, by Jasper Fforde
- Someday, Someday, Maybe, by Lauren Graham
- The Hunter, by Richard Stark
- The Sixth Station, by Linda Stasi
Plus the one I’m starting with, Diane Setterfield’s upcoming novel, Bellman & Black. It’s not out until November, but I was just approved for it on NetGalley! I’m so excited to get an early peek at this novel that I’ve been waiting on for years! (And, as you can see, I’m doing a wonderful job of not letting my love for her first novel raise my expectations for this one too much…)
I’m obviously not going to get through all of these books. In fact, with everything else I have going on, I’ll be satisfied if I can read Bellman & Black plus just one other. This is (well, should be) an achievable goal. Maybe I’ll even be able to sneak in a third, who knows.
Unfortunately, I have doubts that I’ll be able to make any of the Twitter chats (boo!) but I plan on doing as much unofficial chatting on Twitter as I’m able to. Plus I’ll be updating here every day. And instead of setting a concrete number of blogs to visit and comment on like I did last time, I’m just going to aim for thirty to forty-five minutes each day checking in with my fellow participants. This is as much a minimum to shoot for as it is a limit not to exceed; it is WAY too easy to let hours go by while getting lost in those massive linky lists.
But hopefully, even with my limited participation, I’ll come away from the read-a-thon with a few new blogs to follow.
